goodbye old friend ….

I still reminisce about the first time you ever told me you missed me. I can recall my heart smiling in admiration at how far we’d come. I remember my prom night and how we sat in the back of your grandmother’s truck and as soon as the car door slammed you whispered “you look really beautiful tonight Bria.” That was one of the preeminent nights of my life. I remember sitting on my aunt’s step and you coming to see me, your car double parked in the street and you beaming because it was the first time I ever seen you without your uniform on. That smile of yours was always the key to my heart. I think back on it now and say to myself, that was the closest thing I’ve ever came to being in love with someone. We were so innocent back then. We didn’t need much; just being in each other’s presence was bounteous. We have so many memories. After all of it was over, you went your way I went mine, I still thought of you. I still referred to you as the best. You came into my life again, all to leave again. But this time we cultured each other. This time we weren’t just kids. This time I fell a tiny bit more. But this time wasn’t our time. Last night I cried, I didn’t know why, but I did know why. I can’t help but to feel that this time it’s over for a while. You told me when we get our lives together we’d cross paths again. I believe you and that scares me. I just hope next time the stars align, I’ll be ready. Next time the stars align, I just hope you feel the same.
